The ever changing signature, eh?
Since nobody can read my legal signature I came up with that stylized printed version for my decals. It evolved into my "artist" signature that I use on my artwork and guitars now. The "double circle scribble" one, like on the old CS COAs is my legal one. It's always fun at the bank!

That is funny stuff! I am the same way. My teachers thought I should have become a doctor.

Don't even get me started on my teachers complaining...

It was really bad at the Custom Shop because I'd have to sign hundreds of COAs every month, plus tons of other paperwork. It just got worse and worse.

Oh well, it became a good decal for my new guitars!

You guys had some interesting runs. It almost makes me dizzy when I see all current offerings. They seemed a little more elusive back then as they seemed like smaller runs farther apart. Sometimes people didn't even know the runs existed, like the Hendrix Strats with the reverse heads and tortoise guards, and the '65 Strat run in the 90's.

Eddie,
If I'm not mistaken, CS 0007 was the lefty Foam Green Tele Thinline that I built of Elliot Easton in 1987. I've got a shot of him with it somewhere around here. When I find it I'll post it.

JOhn,
Question. so if a fender custom shop guitar has your signature on the coa, but not on the headstock, does that mean you did not build it yourself? Maybe, my question is, how can i tell if you, yourself, built a fender custom shop guitar? many thanks, peace

Wow... sorry it took so long for me to see and answer your question... my apologies. If I built it my signature would either be on the back of the peghead, as a Master builder, or in the body and neck pocket, from when we first started the CS and Mike was the only "official" Master builder. My signature on the COAs was as the head of the shop "assuring" that it was indeed a CS instrument. The individual MBs didn't start signing the COAs until sometime after I left.
