Woman is the Machine Art Guitar - S/N 016

Postby johnpage on Tue Nov 17, 2009 6:38 pm

Some of you may have already seen the beginning of this project on my column at Modern Guitars - http://www.modernguitars.com/page/ but I just wanted to show some of the recent shop shots of it. I've just been focusing on this piece for the last month because it's so detailed... but it's a hoot!

The first shot is of the flat sculptural panels cut to size and "dry fit" into the body. The second shot is the pieces leafed (23 Carat gold, pure copper and silver). Next shots are of the aging process. The last is on the electronic sculptural component

I hope it'll be done by year end!

She looks fantastic, John. That's a truly unique guitar - is there no end to your imagination?

Thanks Pai!
Here's the latest shot. The body is now complete (less the acrylic top), ready for final assembly. The solid brass top plate was quiate a challenge to do by hand, but I think it turned out very cool.

I needed to wait until it was this far along to decide upon the fretboard inlay (if any). The client really wanted some inlay, but was fine with an understated one due to the complexity of the artwork in the body. It's going out to Ron Thorn for the inlay hopefully next week. When it gets back, a few weeks in paint for the neck and it should be done! I can hardly wait.

This has been a really fun project for me, and I'm thrilled that my client has been so patient and understanding. I look forward to his reaction when he finally gets to see and play her in person.

Cheers,
John

Nope... haven't gotten the neck back yet. Hopefully in the next week or two.

(The P-1X3 is in process though Eddie!)

This is functional art exemplified. I imagine it will prove a timeless source of commentary and inspiration in
regards to all who view, or are lucky enough to play "Women is The Machine."
